Frame of Reference
What is a frame of reference? What is position? What is motion? How can you be moving and standing still?
Tell us how you understand these questions at this point in our study.

Frame of refrence is is when you compare the speed of something to something else. Position is when when one things positonis compared to something elses position. Motion is when you compare the motion of something to you. We can be moveing and be standing still at the same time because ifyou compare something moveing to some thing that is not move like compareing you to a moveing car.

Frame of reference is when you compare speeds of different objects.
Position is where you or something is compared to something else.
Motion is when you compare the movement of something to you.

Frame of Reference is comparing speeds of objects. I liked doing th motion detectors and showing my own thing over the over head.

So far, no one has really explained what motion is. Try not to use related words like movement. Maybe the word “position” can help you explain motion.
Rob, what two things do you need to include when you describe the position of something?
Zach, Rob, and Ellen: a Frame of Reference is used to compare speeds (or describe positions) of objects, but that isn’t what it is. Try to give an example.
Ellen, Explain a little more about the motion detectors. What was the “thing” you showed on the overhead?
For everyone, giving interesting examples is the best way to explain these ideas. For example, what happens if you drop a ball out of a speeding car?

Frame of Reference is what we use to compare speeds of two or more objects, like a bus and a person in it, they are both moving at the same speed, but the person dosn’t feel like they are moving. Motion is how fast or far or just the movement of an object.

A frame of reference is an object that another object is compared to inorder to determine its motion. Position is were something is located to its frame of reference, and motion is a change in postion compare to a frame of reference.

Kristen, how about an example?

if the frame of refrence is to th earth im not moving but if its to the sun iam if im in a car with a friend were not moving compared to eachother

It is when i am wlaking and someone is walking behind me and we are going the same speed the person behind me cant tell that im moving! If i start running and the person behind be starts running at the same speed, to them it looks like im not moving!

I think that frame ofr reference makes alot of sense. It was cool when u made an example by cahsing courtney around thr oom, and it showed that she didn’t move compared to u.

Frame of motion is what you compare an objects motion to, for example if you are riding in a car at 60mph, in the frame of reference to the car you are not moving. But in the frame of reference to the earth you are moving at 60mph. Motion is when an object changes it’s position or ‘moves’.

Frame of reference is how you look at position and movment in diferent perspectives. Position is were you are compared to something else. Motion is when position changes.

Frame of reference is when you compare speeds to objects. I really enjoyed using the motion detectors. It was fun. Motion is when you change the location or positiont of yourself or something. Position is when you change your location.

In legal terms, a frame of reference is someone’s perspective. Often decisions are made based on a certain person’s frame of reference. For example, in agency, whether or not the agent had authority to contract with a third party will be assessed from the third party’s frame of reference. Therefore it’s the third party’s perspective – and not whether the agent had actual permission- that matters. So if from the customer’s frame of reference the salesperson working at a car dealership had authority to sell you a car for a dollar, then the boss can be held liable for the breach of that contract.
See kids? Law and science go hand in hand!

Frame of Reference the comparison of two objects and their movement. Like to the sun we are moving but to the Earth we aren’t.
Position is where something is compared to it’s frame of reference.
Motion is a change in position and you compare that to a certain frame of reference. Motion is also movement.

Frame of referance is something that you can comapre another thing to to determine its position or motion.
Position is where you are relitive to your frame of referance.
Motion is movement.
You can be moving and standing still if your on the Earth because if the sun is you frame of referance you are moving.

i think frame of reference is someone’s perspective of something.
i really liked using the motion detectors. but i only have one question. how do the motion detectors detect motion and record them?
March 21st, 2006 at 8:16 am
Position is when one things position is compared to something else’s position.
Motion is when something changes it’s state of position or is put into movement.
We can be moving and standing still at the same time if you compare something that isn’t moving to something that is moving, you are moving and not moving at the same time. If you are looking at the car, you are standing there and you are not moving, but if u are looking at someone from the moving car, that person is moving in your perspective. This is where frame of reference comes in.

The frame of reference is the thing that you compare to another to see if the other object is moveing. Like if I was on a train and looked out the window the people would look as if they were moving if I used the trees as a frame of reference. I think this is what it is……

Nate has a good question. Is someone willing to try to find out how these position sensors work?
Mr. Light

The position sensors are cool and how the frame of reference works.

I love the position time machine things. They are really fun to make a graph with. It’s really cool that it fallows my track and i had a lot of fun.

am on a train doign a 100mph compared to the train am not moving but to the earth am moveing
April 27th, 2006 at 1:46 pm
I really underdtand it now!Like if you were on a train and a car is outsid eof the train you are moving compared to the car but to you your not so frame of reference is comparing something to another.
