Relatively Speaking
Yesterday we started learning about how we can tell the age of the Earth. We discussed the difference between relative age and absolute age. We also learned the Law of Superposition (The Layer Cake Rule).
The word “relative” can be used to describe many things that are compared to each other. For example, when I sit next to Ian in a speeding car, I am moving relative to the road, but I am staying still relative to Ian.
What is relative age? What is absolute age? Give an example of each. What do you think relative speed would be? What is the Law of Superposition? What type of rocks does it apply to?

Relative age is a comparision to something, and Absolute age is the actual, specific date or number. Relative speed would be a comparison to the speed of something else. The Law of SuperPosition states that In a sequence of undisturbed sedimentary rocks, the oldest rocks will be at the bottom and the youngest rocks will be at the top. It applies to Sedimetary rocks.

Relative age puts one event in a specific time by comparing it with other events. An example of relative time would be like section A is older than section B. It doesn’t tell an exact time, but it relates with other times. Absolute time yields a specific date, such as, C is 400 million years old.

Relative age is the age of an object or of anything compared to another age but not exact. Absolute age is the exact age of the object or person. Relative: I am seven years older than my brother tobias. Absolute: I am thirteen. I think relative speed is like the speed of you next to the speed of a moving car. The law of superposition states that in a sedimentary undisturbed hill of layers the bottom is the oldest and the top is the youngest. This law only aplies to sedimentary rocks.

Absolute Age is the Exact age of something. Relative age is compared to something. Relative speed is speed compared to someone else. If we both sit in a car going around a corner at 60 mph I’m not moving relative to the other person in the car. The Law of Superposition says that in layers of rock, the top rock is newer. That tells relative age.

relitive time indictes a palce in a sequence.
Abssolute time yeilds a Specific date.
The law of superpostion sates that in a sequence of undistured sedimentary rocks, The oldest rocks will be the bottom of sequence and the youngest will be on the top.

Relative Age is a general saying of how old something is like, he is 60-65. Absolute age is an exact age like, he is 63 years, 48 days, 15 hours, and 52 seconds. I think relative speed would be like putting speed of one thing competing against another. The Law of Superposition says, “In a sequence of undisturbed sedimentary rocks, the oldest rocks will be at the bottom and the youngest rocks will be at the top. And it only applies to sedimentary rocks. ~PEACE~

Relitive age is the difference between two things like humans. Absolut age is the exsact age of somthing. Reletive speed is speed that is compared to another speed. Suporposition says if rocks are not messed or played around with by wether or humans and there hevy deuti equipment. This will make the oldest rocks be on bottem and youngest rocks be on top.

Relative age- is a comparison of two objects, example: my dad is 34 years older than I am.
absolute age- is exact age not a comparison [date] example: i am thirteen, non example: I am five years older than my cousin.
The Law of Superposition- States that in a sequence of sedimentary rock the bottom layer is the oldest.
Sedimentary rock is that rock that this applies to.

Relitive age is an age in an order by comparing it with other ages, such as alyssa is a year older than me. Absolute age is a specific age such as I am 13. I think relative speed might be comparing one speed to another. The Law Of Superposition is layers like bottem to top. The rocks that lay under the category (Law of Superpostion) would be Sedimentary rocks.

Relative time is an event in an order by comparing it with other events. An example of relative time would be that Stephanie is one year younger than me.. Absolute time is the specific time. An example of absolute time is that I’m 14 years old. I think relative speed is the same speed of something else that’s moving. I says that the bottom layer is the oldest and the top layer is the youngest and Sedimentary rocks apply to it.

Relative speed could be comparing to types of speed.the law of superposition means that the bottom layer is always older. The top layer is always the youngest, which applies to sedimentary rocks!

Realative age is the age of somthing in comparison to somthing else.Example/ I was born 6 hours and 30 minutes after Michelle/ Abosolute age is the exact date of somthing not comparing it to somthing else. Example/ I was born on December 13, 1992, at 2:30 am/
I think realative speed would be the speed that you are going compared to the speed someone or somthing else. The law of superposition is a law that in a sequence of undesturbed sedimentary rocks the bottom most layer is the oldest. It applys to sedimentary rocks.

Absolute time is a specific time, it tell exactly how old something is. Relative compares to ages like I am 4 years older then my oldest brother, my absolute age is 15. The law of superposition states that in a sequence undisturbed to sedimentary rock, the rock on the bottom is the oldest and the one on top is the youngest.

Relative age is one type of records. Absolute age is a type measureing the time . Relative speed would be comparison to the speed of the object the law superposition the oldest rocks are on the bottom and the youngest are on top.

Relative age is when you compare two ages but not saying the exact age. An example of relative age is, I am a year older than Hayley. Absolute age is when you name the exact age of a person or thing. An example of this is, I am 13 years old or that house right there is 68 years old. Relative speed would probably be when you are going the same speed as the person in front, on the side, or behind you. The law of superposition says that the oldest rock is placed on the bottom sequence and the youngest on the top. This law pertains to Sedimentary rock.

Relative age is if two things where made at about the same time and you know one things age you should know about the age of the other. (the planets)
Absolute age is the exact age of something. (Jack’s age)
I think relative speed would be about how fast something is going like in a 55 mph speed zone people will be going about 55 mph mabey a little more mabey a little less.
The law of super position is that the oldest thing will be on bottom and the youngest will be on top. This applies to sedimentary rock which buildes up on top of each other.

Realitive age is an age in relation to another age. For example, my age is 2 years younger than my sister. That is my age in relation to my sister.
Absolute age is absolute age. It is an exact age, no if and’s or but’s. My absolute age is 13years, 5months, and 15days. (Not for certain, though I think I’m close!)
I think the law of realitive speed is the speed of something in comparison to something else, like a car is 25mph faster than a horse.
The law of superposition is that with rock, the oldest layer is at the bottom of a “pile” and the youngest rock layer is on the top.
The law of superposition is true with sedimentary rock. Older sediments get together and are then covered by newer sediments, and then newer still, still newer, ect., ect, ect. till we have the law of superposition.

Relative age is like if you are 13 years 7months and 12 days old that is called Absolute age, but if you say yeah i’m close to being 14 that is called Relative age.Absolute age is the specific date like 13 Years 7 Months 13 Days old. What I think relative speed would be is if you are going 67 mph you would say im going about 70 mph. States that in a sequence sedimentary rocks, the oldest rocks will be on the bottom of the sequence and the youngest will be on the top. The type of rocks that apply to the law of superposition is Sedimentary rocks.

Relative speed is probably when you are going the same speed as the person beside you. Relitive age is when time places an event by comparing it with other events-comparing speed. Absolute age is when it yeilds a specific date- like this year is 2006 and it will be there for 1 year.
The law of superposition is a thing that states in sequence that is, not overturned sedimentary rocks the olest rocks will be the bottom and the youngest is at the top of the sequence.

Absolute age is the right age.
Relative speed is almost the right speed.
the law of superposition is that there are diffrent layers the top is youn the bottom is old.
The law goes to sedimentery.

*Relative age is when you compare your age with some one elses age. Like that tree over there is 8 years old, and that school over there is 17 years old.
*Absolute age is when you olny look at that specific age, my lilttle brother is 11.
*I think that relative speed would be when you compare your speed with some one elses speed.
*The law of Superposition states that the oldest layer of rock is on the bottom, and the youngest layer of rock is on the top. This applies to Sedimentary rocks.

Relative age is when you compare two ages. An example of relative age is I am younger than Mr.Light. Absolute age is the exact age of something. An example is that I’m 13 years old. I think relative speep is how fast something is going compared to another thing. The lay of superpositions says that the oldest rock is on the bottom layer and the top layer is the youngest. This oly works with sedimentary rocks.

Relative age- Is an age that compares two ages. Like I am 13 years old and my mom is older than me.
Absolute time-Tells the exact date, It could tell exacatly how old something is.
Law of superposition- The youngest rock is always at the top.

Absolute age is the exact age you are. exp. I am 14 or my friends hores is 6 years old.
Relative speed would be that I am going the same speed as the person behind me or in front of me or beside me. The law of superposition states thats in a sequence of undisturbed sedimentary rocks, the oldest rocks will the bottom of the sequence and the youngest will be at the top. Relitive age is compareing ages. Like if you said you where 3 years older than someone that would be relative because you are compareing the ages.
Absolute age is the exact number not compared to any thing or one. Like if you said you where 20 your telling your exact age.
Relative speed would be speed’s that are compared to each other.

Relative age is an objects age compared to another’s age. For example, I am 72 years older then Joe. Absolute age is an object’s own age. For example, I am 14 years old. Relative speed is an object’s speed compared to another object’s speed. Superposition is that newer objects are on top of older objects.
